Writing
At Hudson Road lessons for each year group are carefully structured to reinforce basic literacy skills. Our priority is to make sure that every pupil is a confident, literate person by the time they move to secondary school, able to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.
Wherever possible, we use first hand experiences, visits and visitors as a stimulus for learning. For example: Year 6 read 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and had a day long survival skills workshop before writing their own desert island diaries; Year 2 children visited West Boldon Eco Lodge and wrote their own nature poems and reflections.
We use the Berol Handwriting Scheme.
