We are a Primary Science Quality Mark Gold Award Winner.
Science enables us to make sense of the world around us. At Hudson Road, we aim to nurture every child’s natural curiosity, encouraging them to ask thoughtful questions and develop a genuine love for exploration and discovery.
Intent
Science matters because it inspires curiosity, prompting children to ask “why?” and “how?” about the world they see. Through science, they can grasp important concepts about living things, materials, forces, and the planet we share. By thinking like scientists, students learn to observe carefully, make predictions, carry out experiments, and reflect on the results. Science is all around us, embedded in our food, toys, and technology. Nurturing an interest in science today may even inspire future scientists who go on to create important inventions and discoveries.

Implementation
Our approach to science teaching is designed to be engaging and enjoyable. Pupils take part in a range of exciting experiments and hands-on activities, building on their existing knowledge and skills. Lessons take place in a variety of settings, including whole-class instruction, small-group work, outdoor learning, and educational visits. Children gain experience using scientific equipment and learn the key scientific vocabulary needed to communicate their ideas. We make meaningful connections between science and other subjects such as mathematics and English, supporting a well-rounded education. Throughout, we monitor students’ understanding carefully and provide targeted support to help them progress.
Impact
Through science at Hudson Road, children become confident explorers, ready to investigate and ask questions. They develop a strong foundation of scientific knowledge and ideas, alongside the skills needed to plan and conduct experiments. Our pupils learn to communicate their scientific thinking clearly and confidently, becoming effective problem-solvers who can tackle challenges logically. Most importantly, they will be well-prepared for their future studies in secondary school. We warmly invite everyone to continue their science journey by joining us at our Annual Science Fair in the summer.
